The project focused on the conservative restoration and technical study of two important works of art belonging to the Doria Pamphilj Gallery, the Penitent Magdalene by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and the Deposition from the Cross by Giorgio Vasari.
The restoration of these two paintings was performed under the supervision of the Superintendent for the Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage and for the Polo Museale of the City of Rome.
For the duration of the project, the public was able to watch the restoration work in progress, as it was possible to approach the paintings during the regular meetings with the technicians.
A series of thematic conferences analysed the dialogue between the two artists from different disciplinary perspectives, from art history to the history of music, from historiography to semiology.
