Massimo Stanzione – Immacolata Concezione – after the restoration

The exhibition about the restoration of Immacolata Concezione by Massimo Stanzione will be opened on July from 18th to 28th 2014 at Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica of Palazzo Corsini in Rome and it will be inaugurated on July 18th with a press conference.

The exraordinary event also allows the unique possibility to compare the painting Immacolata Concezione with another painting of the same painter: Madonna della rosa in the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica, Palazzo Corsini.

The restoration project regards the work on three paintings in an awful conservation state, thanks to Verderame team and entirely financed form a large group of private supporters.

On one of the painting, Immacolata Concezione, the sign and the name of the painter have been discover: Massimo Stanzione. During the diagnostic investigation campaing and the archive search, the author of the other two paintings has been discovered thanks to the restoration and the study.

Infact, after the cleaning, the sing of Giovanni Battista Gamba has been showed on the painting Sacra Famiglia con Sant’Anna. Thanks to the comparison with the technique and the style, it has been possible to understand that Battista Gamba is also the author of Il Perdono di Assisi. The three paitings form Pescocostanzo, a little town in Abruzzo, will come back to the origin site: Chiesa di Gesù e Maria on the month of August.

The exhibition at Galleria Corsini will allow to observe the result of the restoration work and to compare the two paitings by Stanzione, with different date and conservation state, suggesting suggestions from many points of view, from the iconography to the style, from the final colors state to the different effects thanks them it has been possible to know their author.
